Fort Garrison Nature Trail

The Fort Garrison Nature Trail is a project of the Fort Garrison PTA. The Nature Trail is located behind the school near the lower playground.

The Nature Trail was established in 1997 with the assistance and funding of the Pikesville Recreation and Parks, the donation of labor by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks and the Fort Garrison PTA. This collaborative effort created a resource for the students and teachers of Fort Garrison Elementary School. The Nature Trail is a visible ( and hands on) way for our children to understand the important role the natural world plays in their lives. The hope is our students will learn more about nature from this trail and learn how important it is to respect and value our environment.

A Nature Trail Field Guide Manual and Map was created by a PTA Nature Trail Committee. This field guide is available at the Fort Garrison Elementary School Library. In addition, teachers have a copy of the manual in their classrooms.

In 2002 the Fort Garrison PTA added signs to the trail to help children identify various plant species.

Each spring the PTA hosts its annual nature trail cleanup. It is a great way to come out with the family and spend some time sprucing up the trail.

The Nature Trail is open year round to the community.
